The deadline for our Photo Challenge Red is today at 5PM PST. The winner will be announced on Friday’s audio podcast.

We have the most entries we’ve ever had. Could it be all those prizes?

I think that the prizes are a big draw, but I think another factor could be Flickr’s policy to hide photos from public searches until the accounts have been reviewed. This review process seems to take forever after you submit your first photo.

Actually that makes no sense to me. How could Flickr holding photos from public search actually increase contest participation? By the way you need to submit five photos and then it’s nearly instant approval. They apparently don’t approve until you’ve submitted five images.

My logic is that posting to a group allows your photo to been seen before your account is reviewed and simply tagging the photo does not allow the photos to be viewed. The bottom line is that this contest pool makes it easier to post, thus more entries. The prizes are without question a major factor as well.

It is good to know about the five photo rule, that does make sense. I wish I knew about that part of the process when I first signed up.

I have just uploaded 5 pictures to my flickr account. The picture that I posted to the group still does not show up for non flickr members or those that are not logged in. So there might be another rule…

Apart from the prizes having a big influence, and the fact that the number of subscribers is increasing, I think that more people are becoming comfortable with the idea of the contest itself. You know, the more they see other people participating and actually winning the more the idea of participating becomes acceptable, and even doable.

I still havn’t contributed to any of the contests, but I’ve shot for a couple of them. But I figured I’d post a picture for the Red contest, so I shot my pictures today not knowing that the deadline was yesterday. But I’m still stoked, i got some shots I would have passed on if I wasn’t chasing red stuff. With a little luck I’ll make it in time for the next one. I do like the contests eaven If I’m not part of the statistics. And I bet that there are more people like me. Shooting for the contests but never posting for various reasons. We are kind of like the ninjas, lurking in the shadows util the right moment. Just know that we’re there.

Love the show!

I really think there’s a glitch at Flickr. Or some hidden, obscure rule. I had many problems about tagged items not showing up on searches, even with all my settings wide open and days after uploading 5 pictures. I don’t think it’s ALL a matter of people not knowing what they are doing. I’m glad you opened the contest pool because it makes it more fool proof.
