TWIP Blog Upgrade Complete

Site Info
Our migration to WordPress 2.6 seems to have gone smoothly thanks to a world-class effort by Aaron and Jeff. The guys worked most of yesterday afternoon and evening to make it happen.
By upgrading to 2.6, we have access to a few new features and better stability. Also, some of the old bugs are gone.
Please be patient with us if everything isn’t exactly perfect. There’s a bunch of data to go through to make sure everything propagated over to the new server. That’s right, in addition to the WordPress upgrade, we moved our server from Minnesota to San Francisco.
If you see any obvious errors, please send us an e-mail. And if you enjoy the blog, be sure to buy Aaron and Jeff a beer if you see them at the local pub!

Impressive - could they come over and help me with my blog a little now?
Great show again… missed Scott on the last episode, but no bandwidth is what it is.

Honestly, most of the credit goes to Jeff for the grunt work on this one. I mostly did little bits of testing and brainstorming where needed. ![]()

Great job! I knew it would work fine. Thanks for all the work you guys do to make the blog and podcast a success.

As a suggestion, it would be nice to have a section in the sidebar (maybe above the poll) that shows the current contest and deadline. It would certainly help out those like myself that are an episode or 2 behind on the podcast.
Just an idea.

@Nik it’s already there - simply click the Photo Assignment Category. Also since we’ve upgraded to WP 2.6, we’re not tagging posts so look for the tag “contest” in the Tag Cloud.

Really like the work you’ve done on the upgrade, but my main compliment (as always) goes to the fantastic content you guys are consistently creating. Excellent!
How to make it better? One thing that consistently confuses me about your site is that I have to go to Pixelcorps to download your podcasts. I’d wish for a list of download links available directly on your main page, say, the last 5 podcasts or so?
Also, when an article introduces a new episode of the podcast, there REALLY should be a direct download link in the article.

@Hubert we prefer you use iTunes. If you’re going to ignore our preference, that’s up to you. It was a hard fight getting Alex to even let me include the download link. He’s been crunched for time and promises eventually there will be an MP3 feed.
And I am not sure what you mean by the last sentence. There is always a direct link to the podcast in each post talking about a new episode. REALLY there is. Just click on it.

Scott - thanks for your reply. Being a photography enthusiast, but not a pro, I make my money with a non-photography related daytime job. I spend most of my workday in front of a laptop owned by my company. Company roles prohibit me from installing iTunes, or any other software for that matter, to install on this machine. My way of “consuming” podcasts is to download them via Internet Explorer, burn them onto a CD, and listen to them in the car during commute.
On the last item: I very carefully went through the “TWIP Podcast #39 - Weddings” post, and I don’t see a download link anywhere. I looked at the html source code of the page, searching for “.mp3″. It’s not there. What did I miss?

@Hubert I understand about your non-use of iTunes. That’s why we make the show available on Pixelcorps.
The link is in the first paragraph of the show notes.
“Episode 39 is in the feed or you can download the MP3 at Pixelcorps.TV.” And the link http://www.pixelcorps.tv/twip039. Is this not what you’re looking for? Perhaps I am misunderstanding what you want.
Perhaps you’re saying we should link directly to the MP3 file? In that case it’s http://www.podtrac.com/pts/redirect.mp3/pixelcorps.cachefly.net/twip/twip_039_aud.mp3.

Scott - thanks for the second reply. Really appreciate the time you dedicate to working with your audience.
I had seen the link you pointed out. Except I wouldn’t call it a “download link”. This link still makes me go to another website (Pixelcorps) and initiate the download from there. A “real” download link would be pointing to http://www.podtrac.com/pts/redirect.mp3/pixelcorps.cachefly.net/twip/twip_039_aud.mp3

Hubert I’ll see if Alex is okay with incorporating that change.
