The way the show’s been going lately I’m surprised you didn’t title it “Brinkman’s Sack” - Can’t wait to check this out when I’m not at work ![]()

ok… best advice ever.. buy batteries off ebay. I never thought to do this before, but I just bought two batteries for $13AUD. I saw them in the shop yesterday for $70AUD ea.
Thank you Ron!

As an aside, I totally agree with Mr. Brinkman that the 10-22mm lens is terrific.

It’s so weird he recommended 39dollarglasses.com. I’ve gotten my glasses from them exclusively for the last two years. They’re cheap enough that you don’t have to worry about affording glasses every year (and you can have a backup available), but still relatively durable.
I like Ron; he had a lot of tips for the frugal photographer…something that many people seem to forget about in this field. Great job!

Does anyone know where I can grab those mini flash units from? I tried an Ebay search without success. Any links would be appreciated.
Cheers

What’s the name of his bag? I can’t find it on google. Anyone know the site?

Just want to say, this was a great episode, always fun to see what people carry with them and, almost more important for me in my search for the perfect bag, what they carry it all in.
Perhaps a suggestion for one of the flickr streams, have a ‘what’s in my bag’ thread. I really should sign up to flickr….

Another great show, thanks! I’m up in the air about the 10-22mm vs. the 16-35mm. What do you guys think?

A VERY simple Google search on “Kata” + “sensitivity” somehow brought up Ron’s bag, the Kata Sensitivity V, first result returned. Wow. Amazing how that works.

Great episode, happy to see Ron is a fellow 40D user. Glad to hear he likes the 10-22mm lens because I am seriously considering it!
So that mini slave is triggered by connecting it directly to my 40D? I don’t have a Speedlite yet just the built-in flash.

I was spelling it wrong. I was using Cata, Liana. Thanks for this link but I could do without the sarcasm.
I have a Lowepro bag now but I might return it for the Kata. I might be getting the 70-200mm 2.8 and I’m not sure that it’ll fit.

I’d be interested in more info on the tripod as well. Its the Bogen 785B but I can’t find the National Geographic branded model they talk about.

@Rob, here’s a link to the Nat’l Geo tripod, at least I think it’s the one:

Hey guys, I’m traveling right now (currently Copenhagen) and haven’t had a reliable internet connection but wanted to pop on and say ‘thanks’ to everyone who commented. I’ll try to answer a few questions that came up:
10-22 vs. 16-35… there’s a BIG difference in focal lengths here. Basically the 10-22 gives you about the same focal length on a 40D/Rebel as the 16-35 (or the also wonderful 17-40) gives you on a full-frame like the 5D or the bigger guys. If you’ve got a crop sensor then I’d personally recommend going with the 10-22 if you love the ultra-wideangle.
Kata bag is still kicking butt on this current trip. Just really flexible. The 70-200mm would probably fit in there but you’d end up needing to use the top and bottom compartments I’d suspect if you want to get other gear in there too.
The little slave flash I have is triggered solely by a burst of light from another flash. It’s not one of the more sophisticated remote trigger flashes that use IR or radio. But useful for me since it’s completely self-contained - just makes for a nice bit of extra fill that can come from a different angle.

Great show, being a novice this gave some nice tips. Just bought the Kata bag from Amazon, I was looking for a better camera bag!
Thanks

A list of everything in the bag would be nice. I know that it changes, but it would still be nice.

That Kata bag does look nice, but a 17″ laptop won’t fit. They do make another model, the R-103, but it looks pretty big.

Awesome, Ron.
Kata owe you some cash. I just picked up the Sensitivity V over here in Tallinn (and got screwed on the weak pound…)
It’s really designed for the 13.33 MacBook, but my 15″ MBP squeezes in just fine.
Aaron Heath Says:
9 June 2008 at 8:06 am.
Hmmm. Maybe the 15.4″ MBP is a wee-bit too tight to be “secure”. Edges a bit exposed. Okay, as long as I don’t be too rough. I could get my 12″ iBook out of retirement…

This is such a cool video. Thanks so much for posting this.
I was particularly struck by how Ron - a working photographer - has figured out the minimal amount of stuff he needs to get by day-to-day. It really inspires me to try to focus less on amassing stuff - a real problem for me with any of my hobbies - and instead concentrate more on taking better pictures.
Thanks again and I’m looking forward to the others in this series.
