Scott,
Great introduction. I’m starting to think about doing some potrait work and this was great to watch before I ran out and potentially wasted a lot of money.
Can’t wait for the next ones.
Thanks
John

Scott,
Thanks for the introduction to the monolight. Not having worked with monolights myself I learned a couple of things for when I decide to build a studio.
For the listeners who don’t want to spend 600+ dollars on a light kit and pocket wizards, there are other ways of off camera, wireless, flash photography. No need to reinvent the wheel in the comments section. David Hobby has introduced all of us to lighting with small strobes on the cheap. Read it here at The Strobist Blog
As always, Thanks Scott, Alex, and all the other contributors to Twipphoto.

Great information, loved it! In fact, I can’t wait for more on from the future in regards to using things like backdrops for some studio lighting action! Also, just wondering why we diverted from the normal itunes style podcasts?

@Andrew not sure what you mean by diverting from the normal iTunes style podcast. This show is available in the RSS feed at iTunes. If you mean you’re wondering why we’re doing video in addition to the regular radio - style show, well it’s simple…we can. Glad you enjoyed it.

Thank you for your video intro to studio lighting. I’ve been curious about what lighting equipment you need to set up a simple studio and this gives me an idea of what to look for when shopping around in the far-off future.
Great job with the podcast; I look forward to listening to all of you every week. Keep up the great work!

I enjoyed this one a lot also. Having read The Strobist blog a lot lately, I found it fun to see this topic in motion. I like having videos peppered into the same feed, by the way.
As an aside, the graphics in the bottom third were too wide for a video iPod Nano. No big deal though.
Thanks!

I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed this video. Great job, Scott. This is exactly the kind of information that is best presented with this kind of video. I hope you do more, not just about studio lighting, but about other topics.

hey scott. this was a great intro to studio lighting. all the necessary things were explained.
need to bump up your production quality a little though. its ok to move the video camera.
and its a little distracting if you keep looking off to the side of the frame every few seconds.
other than that, awesome video dude!

Nice video scott- simple, clear and a very good introduction into studio lighting.
My only problem was that you kept looking off to one side during the video (I’m guessing it was some notes to remind you) but it was quite distracting.
Other than that- keep it up!

I didn’t mind Scott looking off camera…made it seem more casual and personal.
A well done video with good info.
Looked a tad odd in the cinemascope ultra-widescreen format though…

Being a novice and having zero experience with this part of photography I really enjoyed the video. I learned a lot in just a few minutes. Thanks for all the great info you guys provide.

Top job however I would echo the comments about more cut aways and close ups. Also on Vimeo at least the video is the wrong aspect ratio

Finally a simple FREE resource for a primer on Studio lighting. I will send all the students I have to see this when they ask for a good free resource. Keep up the great work …. covering the basics is so important and no one else is doing it …..
