TWIP Polls

You may have noticed we’ve been running a poll on the blog - located on the right side navigation bar. We’re going to run a new poll every two weeks. The first poll dealt with digital cameras. We’ve now closed our poll asking “What Kind of Camera Do You Use?”
More than 1600 of you voted and the results are located at left.
For those of you who complain about the fact that we primarily cover Nikon and Canon - one look at the poll shows you why. We can satisfy 84% of our audience in one easy step.
Pentax and Olympus came in third and fourth respectively, with a total of 7.9%. So if we add coverage of those two brands, we up our potential “happy listener” quotient to 93%. The other brands comprise the remaining seven percent.
Don’t worry - we won’t abandon the other camera brands (as long as they are willing to work with us,) but you can see the numbers for yourself.
As a matter of detail and transparency…we restricted the vote to one per IP address and made sure the questions were presented in random order, so that we wouldn’t unduly influence the answers.
Our next poll is even simpler; Do you shoot JPEG, RAW or BOTH. You have two weeks to post an answer and we’ll give you the results right here on the TWIPPHOTO blog.
To those who voted, thanks for participating.

Guys, new listener love the show have started on the first few episodes. One thing that is bugging my is the pronunciation of “Bokeh”.
It’s pronounced Bo Kay (bo as in tai bo / kay as in Okay).
This alone would put me off the show if it wasn’t so good :o)

Wow James - you’re tough - hopefully we won’t mispronounce any other words. If that one mistake would push you over the edge I assume two would get you to postal.

I’m actually surprised TWIP has so many Nikon shooters. If the Flickr numbers are a good sample, people using Canon DSLRs out number those using Nikon DSLRs by about two to one. Could it be that TWIP has a latent Nikon appeal?

@ James Jones
Actually, James, Scott is pronouncing “bokeh” the correct way. Bokeh is a Japanese word, and some English speakers mangle it to sound like “OK”, or when spelled “boke” (which is also an accepted spelling of the word), they pronounce it like “joke”. Here are some references that I could readily find, but there is way more out there:

So, Scott and gang, you’ve got it right! Keep saying it the way you have been all this time, and then all we’ll have to worry about is Scott mixing up his lens designations… ![]()

Kent your math is a bit off. The survey shows 46.6% Canon and 37.4% Nikon - hardly two to one. As for TWIP shooters - Alex, Ron and I are Canon shooters - Steve and Fred are Nikon. Similar ratio.

Wow how did I miss the first survey? Well after reading the post… TWIP Polls I started to do some investigating (on my PC). My first thought was to check Ad Block Plus in Firefox 3 Beta 3. No, it wasn’t blocking. I then tried IE. Still not working. Hmmm what could it be? I then went over to my iMac and Bingo it worked.
I load a hosts file onto all of the PC’s in my office (thanks to TWiT and GRC). I did a quick search in the file and Bingo, found wp.vizu.com was on the list. A quick edit removing that line, save the hosts file, restart and Bingo i’m in. ![]()
BTW I shoot with a Canon 30D. My first digital was the Canon G2, then the Canon G6. My wife has a Canon S410.

Scott, the “Two to one” was a half-serious rough guesstimate of Flickr users, not a characterization of your survey. Now that I do the math…these are the numbers of Flickr. Users of the top 4 Nikon models=7,373. Users of the top 4 Canon models=11,728. That’s actually three to two in favor of Canon. That’s exactly the ratio of your panel. Cheers.

You can add another Canon to the list cause I am picking one up this weekend. I am going with the Canon Rebel XTi 10.1 model. For me it’s about the price and I have been happy with Canon point and shoots in the past. Plus it’s my first DSLR so I don’t want to go to crazy with the price.
